Tom recorded the original version of this song in 1988 when he got his first 4-track recorder. It was re-recorded a number of times over the years as technology evolved to do something new with it. Finally, now in 2007, this definitive version appears at

The song got its name from a guitar sound in the original versions that reminded Tom of the sound that a CTA train used to make in the underground tunnels. Now that the CTA trains crawl at a snail's pace, they no longer make that sound. Neither does this version of the song, but the name has stuck...
